Freedom from religious persecution has fueled wars since time immemorial. Zealots of the Crusades (c. 1090 – 1290 CE) were on a mission to bring the “truth” to those unenlightened souls “ignorant” of the sacred rights and freedoms of the “true” religion, usually, Christianity. Exactly what is religious freedom, Christian freedom…scripturally? Is it, as commonly held, that Old Testament laws are a yoke of bondage and not part of the New Testament church? So we will start with the apostle Paul’s views. Paul said, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of Yahweh and is profitable for Doctrine, for instruction in righteousness.” Certainly many profess Paul’s dictum, however, the common practice is to accept some of the Sacred Scriptures and ignore the rest.
